Afro style: far but close
The design hunters have indicated the afro style as one of the trends for this 2021.
We will tell you about it and give you some food for thought for the styling of your home.
What is the Afro style
As you can guess from the name, this style incorporates the colors and traditions of Africa.
The tones mainly used are those of the earths (orange, yellow, warm brown and beige) accompanied by some notes of black and white.
The suggestions that you have upon entering a house furnished in this style are one of warmth, hospitality and closeness to traditions and craftsmanship.
What allows you to create these atmospheres, together with the colors, are the many typical statuettes, which cannot be missing in an Afro-style home. These usually portray animals from the savannah (mostly elephants) and men from the most pristine tribes of Africa. Due to the strong mass production, finding unique and handmade pieces is increasingly difficult… but not impossible! As they say: he who seeks finds!
How to furnish in Afro style
Let's start with the fabrics. As for the curtains, these are light, with neutral and delicate tones, giving an allure of freshness with hints of movement. The carpets, on the other hand, are loaded with colors, motifs and traditional designs that help to recreate the typical atmosphere of African villages. Do you also think they are beautiful? Who said they only have to stay on the ground?
What we must remember, when we furnish in an Afro style, is the importance of details. Cushions, statues, typical carved plates… everything serves to make the styling more interesting and to create different proportions and dynamism.
Try combining different carved and painted containers to form a perfect centerpiece for your coffee table. Or use two traditional statues on the bookcase as bookends. You could also think about hanging decorated plates or handcrafted bowls on the wall… it would be a waste to hide them in the cupboard!
Another interesting point could be the wallpaper.
In recent years it has become increasingly popular within design. It is suitable for any room in the house and serves to enliven and decorate the space.
You can think of using a wall covering with designs reminiscent of the Afro style or with photographs and drawings that portray Africa!
Must-have materials for this design are wicker and wood. They are used both for objects such as bowls, vases and baskets, and for furnishings such as chairs and tables.
